What is an HVAC System?
An HVAC system (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) is responsible for controlling the temperature, humidity, and air quality in environments such as factories, shopping centers, cold storage, or clean rooms. This system helps maintain a comfortable and safe environment for both people and equipment, playing an important role in controlling airflow, temperature, and humidity.
Components and Working Principle of HVAC
HVAC System Structure
Heating:
When the room temperature is lower than the set point, the thermostat activates a burner or boiler to generate heat.
Heat is transferred through the air (for burners) or water (for boilers) via a heat exchanger.
A fan pushes the warm air through ducts to the heated space.
Ventilation:
Fresh air from the outside is drawn into the system through fans and air filters.
The air handling unit adjusts the temperature and humidity, then distributes clean air to the rooms.
Old or polluted air is exhausted through exhaust fans.
Air Conditioning:
The refrigerant is compressed by a compressor and passes through a condenser to dissipate heat into the environment.
The liquid refrigerant passes through a throttling valve to reduce pressure and becomes cooler before entering the evaporator.
In the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs heat from the air inside, cooling the air.
The cooled air is distributed to the space via fans, while the heat is expelled outside through the condenser.
Working Principle of HVAC System
Why Use Differential Pressure Sensors in HVAC Systems?
-
Airflow Control:
Ensures that airflow is evenly distributed to areas within the building or factory, maintaining a comfortable environment. -
Monitoring and Maintenance of Filters:
In HVAC systems, air filters prevent dirt and pollutants from entering. When the filter becomes clogged, the differential pressure between both sides of the filter increases, alerting the operator to replace the filter at the right time, ensuring performance and energy savings. -
Room Pressure Control:
For areas requiring strict pressure control (clean rooms, laboratories, hospitals), differential pressure sensors ensure positive or negative pressure as required. -
Fan Performance Optimization:
Differential pressure sensors are used to adjust fan speed in HVAC systems, ensuring the fan operates at the highest efficiency, saving energy and prolonging the lifespan of the equipment. -
Monitoring Heat Exchange Efficiency:
Sensors measure the differential pressure across heat exchangers (such as heating/cooling coils) to check the airflow or fluid circulation.
They help detect issues such as blockages or performance degradation early. -
Leak Detection:
Differential pressure sensors can detect leaks in air ducts or water pipelines by comparing pressure between different sections.
